:: | Residues: Arg35-Thr361 |
:: | Subcellular Location: Membrane, Golgi apparatus Phenomenon Explanation: The possible reasons that the actual band size differs from the predicted are as follows: 1. Splice Variants: Alternative splicing may create different sized proteins from the same gene. 2. Relative charge: The composition of amino acids may affect the charge of the protein. 3. Post-translational modification: Phosphorylation, glycosylation, methylation, etc. 4. Post-translation cleavage: Many proteins are synthesized as pro-proteins, and then cleaved to give the active form. 5. Polymerization of the target protein: Dimerization, multimerization, etc. |
Reconstitution and Storage | Reconstitute in ddH2O to the original concentration prior to lyophilization. If additional dilution is required, dilute further in the original base lyophilization buffer excluding stabilizers such as Sarkosyl, Proclin, Trehalose or Sucrose. Do not vortex. Store at 2-8C for one month. Aliquot and store at -80C for 12 months. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles. |

NCBI Gene Id | 2525 |
Protein Name | Galactoside 3(4)-L-fucosyltransferase |
Description of Target | The Lewis histo-blood group system comprises a set of fucosylated glycosphingolipids that are synthesized by exocrine epithelial cells and circulate in body fluids. The glycosphingolipids function in embryogenesis, tissue differentiation, tumor metastasis, inflammation, and bacterial adhesion. They are secondarily absorbed to red blood cells giving rise to their Lewis phenotype. This gene is a member of the fucosyltransferase family, which catalyzes the addition of fucose to precursor polysaccharides in the last step of Lewis antigen biosynthesis. It encodes an enzyme with alpha(1,3)-fucosyltransferase and alpha(1,4)-fucosyltransferase activities. Mutations in this gene are responsible for the majority of Lewis antigen-negative phenotypes. Multiple alternatively spliced variants, encoding the same protein, have been found for this gene. |
