Job Title: Scientist

Aviva Systems Biology is a fast paced, mid stage life sciences research tools company located in San Diego, CA. We commercialize life science tools and reagents for research, drug discovery, and diagnostics.

Location: San Diego, CA

How will you make an impact?

As part of a great team, the Scientist will have responsibility for the development of research products centered around recombinant protein technologies and antibody-based workflow solutions including Western, ELISA, IF, and single cell biology applications. You will work cross-functionally with marketing communications, sales, product management, and manufacturing to develop new products in support of the company’s growth strategy. This is a highly collaborative role where you will directly impact the company’s revenue growth.

What will you do?

  • Support strategic and tactical planning efforts around new product development and key market segments to make investment recommendations to the leadership team
  • Support product portfolio roadmap in collaboration with marketing and product management.
  • Execute new product development plans from concept to commercialization, working closely with manufacturing, product management, marketing communications, and sales.
  • Contribute high technical quality content of marketing materials including collateral, web, sales tools, flyers, videos, white papers, case studies, and customer testimonials.
  • Assist commercial teams and product management in product and market knowledge (tradeshow / event support, sales support, training).

Education Requirements:

  • Ph.D. or M.S. in life science or related subject

Experience:

  • Development and manufacturing of recombinant proteins, pAb, mAb, and recAb
  • Assay development including immunoassay and IF/IHC applications
  • Efficient in managing multiple projects and training research associates
  • Experience and knowledge of workflow related reagents development and instrument solution
  • 5+ years’ experience in protein/Ab production

Skills and Abilities

  • Ph.D. with 2+ or MS with 5+ years of experience in life sciences or related subject.
  • Expertise in development of immunoassay, Western and IF/IHC applications
  • Recombinant protein and antibody production including cloning and purification strategies
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of FPLC system is required.
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot and design experiments.
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
  • Adept at managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments to achieve company goals.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills
  • Proven record of scientific achievement and expertise.
  • Results-oriented and dedicated to providing high quality data.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Background in flow cytometry and/or tissue culture is preferred

Working Conditions:

  • Travel, including international, may be required
  • Work situations include significant collaboration with people; working alone; making judgments and decisions; and directing and planning the activities of others.

The selected candidate for this position will:

  • Work closely with the company leaders to achieve NPI and corporate revenue goals.
  • Lead strategic and tactical planning efforts around new product development and key market segments to make investment recommendations to the leadership team.
  • Manage a recombinant antibody development workflow to address an aggressive new product introduction strategy.
  • Develop product portfolio roadmap in collaboration with marketing and product management.
  • Ensure high technical quality content of marketing materials including collateral, web, sales tools, flyers, videos, white papers, case studies, and customer testimonials.
  • Assist commercial teams and product management in product and market knowledge (tradeshow / event support, sales support, training).
  • Report on product development performance, trends, and corrective actions.

How will you get here?

Education:

  • Ph.D. in life science or related subject.

Experience:

  • Experience in pAb, mAb, and recAb development and manufacture.
  • Experience IF/IHC applications.
  • Experience with workflow product development (reagent / instrument solutions).
  • 3+ years’ experience in antibody development.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ph.D. degree in life science or related subject.

  • Highly organized with proven time management and prioritization skills.
  • Adept at managing multiple projects.

  • Scientific subject matter expert as demonstrated at conferences and with business partners.

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
