ELISA Kit Principle | Aviva Systems Biology OXM ELISA Kit (Human) (OKEH01564) is based on a competitive enzyme immuno assay technique. The microtiter well-plate in this kit has been pre-coated with an anti-human OXM antibody. Sample or standards are added to the wells along with a fixed quantity of biotinylated OXM and incubated. The OXM found in the sample or standards competes with the biotinylated OXM for limited binding sites on the immobilized anti-human OXM antibody. Excess unbound biotinylated OXM and sample or standard OXM is washed from the plate. Avidin-HRP conjugate is added, incubated and washed. An enzymatic reaction is then produced through the addition of TMB substrate which is catalyzed by the immobilized HRP to generate a blue color product that changes yellow after adding acidic stop solution. The density of yellow coloration is measured by reading the absorbance at 450 nm which is quantitatively proportional to the amount of biotinylated OXM captured in the well and inversely proportional to the amount of OXM which was contained in the sample or standard. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

Description of Target | Oxyntomodulin is a naturally occurring 37-amino acid peptide hormone found in the colon, produced by the oxyntic (fundic) cells of the oxyntic (fundic) mucosa. It has been found to suppress appetite. A recent study has found that it can be used as a weight loss treatment. The mechanism of action of oxyntomodulin is not well understood. It is known to bind both the GLP-1 receptor and the glucagon receptor, but it is not known whether the effects of the hormone are mediated through these receptors or through an unidentified receptor. |
