Additional Information | Description: Fas ligand (CD178) is a 40 kD type II transmembrane protein that is a member of the tumor necrosis factor superfamily. This well characterized potent apoptotic factor is utilized by cytotoxic T cells and natural killer cells to selectively kill virus infected and tumorigenic cells. Moreover, studies indicate that Fas ligand is an important regulator in immune homeostasis where it has been shown to down-regulate immune responses during activation-induced cell death. Fas ligand initiates apoptosis by binding to its receptor, CD95, on target cells which facilitates recruitment of numerous signaling proteins to form a death inducing signaling complex. This signaling complex is then believed to propagate the apoptotic signal through the recruitment and activation of caspase-8. The SB93a monoclonal antibody detects a band at ~40 kDa corresponding to the transmembrane/insoluble form of Fas ligand. |
Reconstitution and Storage | Store at 2-8C |
Immunogen | Recombinant human Fas ligand |
Concentration | 0.5 mg/mL |
Specificity | Fas Ligand |
Characterization | To ensure acceptable performance, each batch of product is tested by Flow Cytometry and/orWestern blotting to conform to characteristics of a standard reference reagent. |
Warning | Reagents contain sodium azide. Sodium azide is very toxic if ingested or inhaled. Avoid contact withskin, eyes, or clothing. Wear eye or face protection when handling. If skin or eye contact occurs, wash with copious amounts of water. If ingested or inhaled, contact a physician immediately. Sodiumazide yields toxic hydrazoic acid under acidic conditions. Dilute azide- containing compounds inrunning water before discarding to avoid accumulation of potentially explosive deposits in lead orcopper plumbing. |

Gene Symbol | FASLG |
---|---|
Gene Full Name | Tumor necrosis factor ligand superfamily member 6 |
Alias Symbols | APTL, FASL, CD178, CD95L, ALPS1B, CD95-L, TNFSF6, TNLG1A, APT1LG1 |
NCBI Gene Id | 356; 429064 |
Protein Name | tumor necrosis factor ligand superfamily member 6 |
Description of Target | This gene is a member of the tumor necrosis factor superfamily. The primary function of the encoded transmembrane protein is the induction of apoptosis triggered by binding to FAS. The FAS/FASLG signaling pathway is essential for immune system regulation, including activation-induced cell death (AICD) of T cells and cytotoxic T lymphocyte induced cell death. It has also been implicated in the progression of several cancers. Defects in this gene may be related to some cases of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described. |
