Additional Information | Description: CD36, also known as GPIV, is an 88 kDa glycoprotein that is a receptor for extracellular matrix proteins such as collagen and thrombospondin. Its expression is restricted to platelets, monocytes, macrophages, erythrocyte precursors, adipocytes, activated keratinocytes, and some endothelial and epithelial cells. CD36 is a multifunctional protein that has roles as a cell adhesion molecule, a scavenger receptor, a signal transducer and in the pathogenesis of malaria via its affinity for Plasmodium falciparum erythrocyte membrane protein 1 (PEMP1). CD36 on macrophages functions in the phagocytic clearance of apoptotic cells. |
Reconstitution and Storage | Store at 2-8C |
Immunogen | Tonsil cells and peripheral blood mononuclear cells |
Concentration | 0.1 mg/mL |
Specificity | CD36 |
Characterization | To insure lot to lot consistency, each batch of product is tested by flow cytometry to conform with thecharacteristics of a standard reference reagent. |
Warning | Reagents contain sodium azide which is very toxic if ingested or inhaled. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, orclothing. Wear eye or face protection when handling. If skin or eye contact occurs, wash with copiousamounts of water. If ingested or inhaled, contact a physician immediately. Sodium azide yields toxichydrazoic acid under acidic conditions. Dilute azide- containing compounds in running water beforediscarding to avoid accumulation of potentially explosive deposits in lead or copper plumbing. |

Application Info | Flow cytometry, Immunohistochemistry (frozen sections), Western blotting |
Other Applications Data | Since applications vary, you should determine the optimum workingdilution of the product that is appropriate for your specific need. |
Storage | - The purified antibody (UNLB) is supplied as 0.1 mg purified immunoglobulin in 1.0 mL of 100 mMborate buffered saline, pH 8.0. Store at 2- 8 C - The fluorescein (FITC) conjugate is supplied as 100 tests in 1.0 mL of PBS/NaN3. Store at 2- 8 C - Protect conjugated forms from light. Reagents are stable for the period shown on the label if stored asdirected. |

Gene Symbol | CD36 |
---|---|
Gene Full Name | Platelet glycoprotein 4 |
Alias Symbols | FAT, GP4, GP3B, GPIV, CHDS7, PASIV, SCARB3, BDPLT10 |
NCBI Gene Id | 948 |
Protein Name | platelet glycoprotein 4 |
Description of Target | The protein encoded by this gene is the fourth major glycoprotein of the platelet surface and serves as a receptor for thrombospondin in platelets and various cell lines. Since thrombospondins are widely distributed proteins involved in a variety of adhesive processes, this protein may have important functions as a cell adhesion molecule. It binds to collagen, thrombospondin, anionic phospholipids and oxidized LDL. It directly mediates cytoadherence of Plasmodium falciparum parasitized erythrocytes and it binds long chain fatty acids and may function in the transport and/or as a regulator of fatty acid transport. Mutations in this gene cause platelet glycoprotein deficiency. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene. |
