ELISA Kit Principle | Aviva Systems Biology’s IL-1 b ELISA Kit (Human) is based on standard sandwich enzyme-linked immuno-sorbent assay technology. An antibody specific for IL-1 b has been pre-coated onto a 96-well plate. Standards or test samples are added to the wells, incubated and washed. A Biotin conjugated detector antibody specific for IL- 1 b is added, incubated and washed. Next it is incubated with horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-Streptavidin, followed by wash. An enzymatic reaction is produced through the addition of TMB substrate which is catalyzed by HRP generating a blue color product that changes yellow after adding acidic stop solution. The density of yellow coloration read by absorbance at 450 nm is quantitatively proportional to the amount of sample IL-1 b captured in well. | ||||||||||||||||||

Description of Target | The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the interleukin 1 cytokine family. This cytokine is produced by activated macrophages as a proprotein, which is proteolytically processed to its active form by caspase 1 (CASP1/ICE). This cytokine is an important mediator of the inflammatory response, and is involved in a variety of cellular activities, including cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. The induction of cyclooxygenase-2 (PTGS2/COX2) by this cytokine in the central nervous system (CNS) is found to contribute to inflammatory pain hypersensitivity. This gene and eight other interleukin 1 family genes form a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 2. |
