ELISA Kit Principle | Aviva Systems Biology Homocysteine Kit (Human) (OKEH02557) is based on standard sandwich enzyme-linked immuno-sorbent assay technology. An antibody for Homocysteine has been pre-coated onto a 96-wellplate (12 x 8 Well Strips) and blocked. Standards or test samples are added to the wells, incubated and removed. A biotinylated detector antibody specific for Homocysteine is added, incubated and followed by washing. Avidin-Peroxidase Conjugate is then added, incubated and unbound conjugate is washed away. An enzymatic reaction is produced through the addition of TMB substrate which is catalyzed by HRP generating a blue color product that changes to yellow after adding acidic stop solution. The density of yellow coloration read by absorbance at 450 nm is quantitatively proportional to the amount of sample Homocysteine captured in the well. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

Protein Name | Homocysteine |
Description of Target | Homocysteine is a non-protein amino acid with the formula HSCH2CH2CH(NH2)CO2H. It is a homologue of the amino acid cysteine, differing by an additional methylene (-CH2-) group. It is biosynthesized from methionine by the removal of its terminal CÎu methyl group. Homocysteine can be recycled into methionine or converted into cysteine with the aid of B-vitamins. While detection of high levels of homocysteine has been linked to cardiovascular disease, lowering homocysteine levels may not improve outcomes. |
