Description of Target | ADNP is a protein encoded by the ADNP gene which is approximately 123,5 kDa. It is a protein that is upregulated by vasoactive intestinal peptide and may be involved in its stimulatory effect on certain tumor cells. The encoded protein contains one homeobox and nine zinc finger domains, suggesting that it functions as a transcription factor. It may also increase the viability of certain cell types through modulation of p53 activity. ADNP is widely expressed with strong expression in heart, skeletal muscle, kidney and placenta. Mutations in the ADNP gene may result in Helsmoortel-van der Aa syndrome. |
