ApplicationWB, IHC-P
::Function: Receptor for glutamate that functions as ligand-gated ion channel in the central nervous system and plays an important role in excitatory synaptic transmission. L-glutamate acts as an excitatory neurotransmitter at many synapses in the central nervous system. The postsynaptic actions of Glu are mediated by a variety of receptors that are named according to their selective agonists. This receptor binds domoate > kainate >> L-glutamate = quisqualate >> AMPA = NMDA
Cellular Location: Cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein. Cell junction, synapse, postsynaptic cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein
Reconstitution and StorageMaintain refrigerated at 2-8C for up to 2 weeks. For long term storage store at -20C in small aliquots to prevent freeze-thaw cycles.
ImmunogenThis GRIK3 antibody is generated from rabbits immunized with a KLH conjugated synthetic peptide between 70-98 amino acids from the N-terminal region of human GRIK3.
PurificationThis antibody is purified through a protein A column, followed by peptide affinity purification.
Predicted Homology Based on Immunogen SequenceMouse; Rat; Monkey
ConcentrationApproximately 0.5mg/ml. Actual concentration varies with each lot.
Intended UseGRIK3 Antibody (N-term) is for research use only and not for use in diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.

Gene SymbolGRIK3
Alias SymbolsEAA5, GLR7, GLUR7, GluK3, GluR7a
NCBI Gene Id2899
Protein NameGlutamate receptor, ionotropic kainate 3
Description of TargetGlutamate receptors are the predominant excitatory neurotransmitter receptors in the mammalian brain and are activated in a variety of normal neurophysiologic processes. This gene product belongs to the kainate family of glutamate receptors, which are composed of four subunits and function as ligand-activated ion channels. It is not certain if the subunit encoded by this gene is subject to RNA editing as the other 2 family members (GRIK1 and GRIK2). A Ser310Ala polymorphism has been associated with schizophrenia, and there are conflicting reports of its association with the pathogenesis of delirium tremens in alcoholics. [provided by RefSeq].
